Location(s)
You are invited to attend a workshop which will introduce you to the fundamentals of Hellenic Reconstructionism (worshipping the Greek deities in ancient style). Most attention will be paid to the details of ritual practice, how a ritual is constructed, what actions are included and what they symbolize, the role of the priest or priestess and the people attending, and the “goals” or “purpose” of the ritual.
Following the presentation, we will be holding the Panathenaia, a Hellenic reconstructionist-styled ritual in honor of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom. This ancient festival was chosen because it is closest to the date of the presentation. Everyone is invited to either participate in, or simply observe, this “Hellenic Recon” ritual to worship Athena on her festival day. This will serve to put into action the details of ritual learned in the teaching portion of the event.
Those participating should feel free to bring any offerings they'd like to give to Athena, such as incense, flowers, oil, poems, artwork, etc. There will be a time in the ritual set aside for making such offerings.
This will take place during the Sirius Rising festival at the Brushwood campsite in Sherman NY. Our workshop & ritual will be held in the "Runestead." For more information about the festival, including directions and entrance fees, please see their site: http://www.brushwood.com
